So here's the subject of debate: are the boys vegetarians or not?
There's never been an outright definite answer to this, because it's never been explicitly said that they are, it is however strongly implied in the Wolfman movie, when Dave mentions that they (well, Theodore, at least) don't eat meat.
This is contradicted however. Theo once order hamburgers for room service when Dave and the boys were vacationing out west on THE ALVIN SHOW, and there's been times on ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS where Theo's been seen making sandwiches that have lunch meat on them, however Alvin's also been seen on the same show eating salad for lunch (and really, what kid would want to eat salad?). Dave also once mentioned that Theo's favorite dinner is manicotti, which I believe is similar to lasagna, which can have meat in it.
In a classic Jell-O commercial, Alvin seemed to think orange-pineapple Jell-O and hot dogs would be a good combination.
I'm also certain just about each of the meals Theo attempted to order in THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE had some meat in them.
Making them vegetarians, or limiting their meat consumption, would make some sense, given that they're chipmunks after all, but we see that they adapted to the human lifestyle almost instantly, such as when Dave first brought them into his cabin and they wanted his scrambled eggs and toast instead of the nuts and berries he supplied them with (it also demonstrates how they're city boys as opposed to their mother Vinny, who's clearly a country girl).

This is a good question. Just like their ages, it hasn't been laid down. I am trying to remember the breakfast request in Chipmunk Adventure but I don't think there was any bacon or anything like that. Dave did make lasagna in Wolf Man but it could have been vegetarian. And your right about Theo and his food ordering. Now I own a hamster and chipmunks are in the same rodent family. Anyway you can feed them meat as long as it's not pork and it's not seasoned. So Chipmunks aren't strictly vegetarian. So I don't know honestly.

I am trying to remember the breakfast request in Chipmunk Adventure but I don't think there was any bacon or anything like that. I actually watched the movie again this morning, and off the top of my head, Theo got banana bread, orange slices, cereal, yogurt, a peanut butter sandwich, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and toast. I almost get a sense they would be more inclined to be vegetarians today if only because it almost feels like today more and more vegetarians have this "agenda" to try and stop the rest of the world from eating meat (vegans especially are hardcore about trying to force their lifestyle onto other people), but I think the Chipmunks would be above that - they have integrity and just about all of their work is very inclusive (the 80s cartoon in particular showed they lived in a very diverse neighborhood). But, I digress. Again, with the obvious exception from WOLFMAN with Dave flat-out saying Theo doesn't eat meat, it feels like their regular diets are kept pretty vague.

I tend to think of it this way, that the different generations of the Chipmunks have different canons. So whatever applies to the Alvin Show doesn't necessarily apply to the 80s cartoon, etc. At least in my mind.
Concerning the 80s cartoon exclusively, I believe Theodore is the only one who is a vegetarian. I remember reading a journal on dA that brought up the same subject, and made some good observations. According to the journal, it was when Theodore befriended Clarence the calf in "How You Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm" episode that he decided he lost his taste for meat. That would make sense due to his love for animals.
It's also a misconception that chipmunks are herbivores, because they consume an omnivorous diet. Not only do they eat seeds, nuts, and grass, but they also eat bugs, worms, smaller animals, and bird eggs.

Good points! Theo being the only one makes sense.
