Back in early 2012, Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick did a cross-over review of THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE - I was curious if anyone else here had seen it?
I used to be a big the Critic fan (I say "used to be," I still think Doug Walker's got a lot of talent, but ever since he uncanceled the show, it just hasn't been the same), never really got into the Chick, but I thought their review was not only amusing and entertaining, but I have to say I'm glad they touched on one subject, because it's nice to know I wasn't alone in my train of thought: the Critic kept thinking Klaus and Claudia were lovers, while the Chick kept having to remind him they were brother and sister. Needless to say the Critic was definitely squicked out over that . . . and to be honest, as a kid, I never really did quite comprehend the nature of their relationship, because up till recently, I've never really known two grown siblings of the opposite sex to live together and bicker with each other like, well, and old married couple. Even now as an adult, I somehow still sense very subtle incestuous vibes emitting from them, but maybe I'm just looking too deep into this.
The Critic seems to always despise musicals, so all throughout the review, he shoots down any of the Chick's attempts to sing about an argument they're having, until they finally do their own spoof of "The Girls of Rock n Roll", which I actually didn't know, until this review, originated from a B-grade beach movie called MALIBU BIKINI SHOP . . . and it apparently was also written by the same songwriter who wrote Olivia Newton-John's "Physical", otherwise known as one of the most godawful songs ever to exist in the history of the music industry.
And yes, it was unavoidable that they had to bring up all the possible innuendos and subliminal messages involved in the whole "Gettin' Lucky" situation, which also gave us a pretty good joke:
CHICK: Should we point out the symbolisism behind subjecting prepubescent chipmunk girls to wearing sexy harem outfits?
CRITIC: Not if you want to get any ads on this video.
